NO!! STOP IT!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION OR TO CALL A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION?? LET ME DEFOCK THE FOCKAGE THAT IS GOING AROUND

One of the newest alarmist fear-mongerings that is going around is that the administration is "priming us for a constitutional convention". This is being spread by nameless social media accounts which have no accountability, nor a real person taking responsibility for what is posted on those accounts.

Let me tell you what it takes for the Constitution to be amended:

First, amendments can be proposed in one of two ways: either Congress proposes the amendment OR the states call for a constitutional convention (this is the so-called "Article 5" option, because it is spelled out in Article 5 of the constitution).

In order to call a constitutional convention, two-thirds of the states must agree to call the convention.

In *either case*, for the Constitution to be *amended*, THREE-QUARTERS of the states *must* ratify (i.e. vote to pass) the amendment. That is true regardless of whether the amendment is proposed by Congress, or via a constitutional convention.

This is important because some of these alarmist posts are banking on you seeing the "2/3s of the states can call a constitutional convention" and you thinking "2/3s is less than 3/4s! Oh noze! We can haz new constitution with only 2/3s of states!"

No.

Either way it requires 3/4s of the states. That's *37* of the 50 states. Do you KNOW how hard it is to get 37 states to agree on anything?

This is fear-mongering mixed with a soupçon of gaslighting.

Reject it.

And for god's sake, and the sake of everyone's sanity, *don't spread it*!

Folks, if you’re the type who just can’t resist the urge to share every meme that comes across your feed, then at the very least, spend 60 seconds vetting them before contributing to the news pollution that we’re all drowning in these days.

I get why someone might think the Pam Bondi faux quote is real; she’s demonstrated a solid history of sycophancy towards prima Donny, but alas, it’s not.

Last week someone posted 71 memes in a row in one of my threads. Yes, I counted them as I deleted them. Then I blocked the idiot who posted them. It was as if he emptied his cupboards of his entire meme collection, 90% of which we’ve all seen dozens of times before.

If you have something to say, by all means, SAY IT. But if you “say it” by posting the made-up observations of someone you don’t know, someone who might very well be cooped up in a cubicle somewhere in Vladivostok, and you post it in one of my threads, I’m’a gonna delete it.

It’s bad enough that the MAGAts use misinformation and disinformation to steer their flocks towards ignorance. Let’s not emulate them.

#NoMasBullshit

PEOPLE!! HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA SCANDAL AND THE ELECTION OF 2016??

Do you NOT REMEMBER how they used memes and targeted you and the people with whom you most interact with those memes, memes that were full of misinformation designed to make YOU fearful, angry, and upset?? Do you NOT REMEMBER how those memes were made to look like they were coming from your party??

What on earth makes you think that this is not going on now, only MORE sophisticated and less detectable??

Question everything!

STOP IT! THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CANCEL ELECTIONS!! THEY CAN'T!

Nobody can do away with elections unless they change the Constitution. And the states primarily control elections (with a bit of participation from Congress), not the federal government and not the president. Period.
