Be YOU
Hello
Hi! I'm Suzi Halloran, your activist blogger. I thought I would just say hello and do a brief introduction. I'm good with lists so let's try that here:
-
Cis gendered female
-
Straight
-
Happily married
-
Dog Mom (chihuahua/pomeranian named Sam (Sammy) Wichester, named after my favorite "Supernatural" Brother, Sam.
-
LGBQT+ Ally (yes i have LGBQT+ friends, co-workers, and my niece is trans.) I'm a fierce advocate for their rights. They are human beings entitled to the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals and cis born.
-
I am a BLM activist.
-
Immigration: I come from a family of Irish/German immigrants. I believe a pathway to immigration is not only right, but is an opportunity for the immigrant and the US alike.
-
I am a firm believer in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. One day perhaps, this world will be filled with fair people who's only judgement is based on merit, but that isn't the case and everyone knows it.
-
My opinion on abortion is complicated. No I don't believe babies should be aborted, but nor do I think we should criminalize those who cannot go through with a pregnancy. I believe we need to make birth control FREE, and sex AND basic health education in schools mandatory, even if we have separate classes for boys and girls. Sorry, not all parents are responsible enough to discuss these things with their child. Also, making adoption, not easier, but less expensive could help get the over, 108,000 kids ALREADY waiting to be adopted. I also believe same sex couples should be afforded the same opportunities to adopt.
-
I decided to delete a big portion of this blog and change it's course. Not because of lack of concern though. It is for emotional survival and self-care. To be so embroiled in all the damage DJT and company has been doing to our beautiful country and understanding how much worse it is likely to get, I let it grind me down. Click the link for what I posted on Facebook, and on the blog, new readers will not understand where this blog started, but will understand why.
An additional element of my activism that won't be going away:

BLACK SHEEP SHOULD BE CALLED LIONS OF THE FAMILY
Within every family there are unique members who break patterns, the so-called "black sheep." "However, far from being a burden or a problem, they are in fact the lions of the family system, the scouts towards the liberation of the family tree.
From an early age, they often question beliefs, challenge traditions and pave the way for paths never traveled.
They are the ones who are criticized, judged or even rejected, but they play a fundamental role: freeing the family from repetitive patterns that cause frustration for generations.
These revolutionary spirits who do not fit in, those who cry out for revolution and do not conform to the status quo, are agents of change.
They are the ones who heal, purify and they regenerate the family tree, creating new branches, full of life and potential.
Thanks to their courage and perseverance, the family roots are renewed.
Their rebellion is fertile soil, their apparent madness nourishes the tree like refreshing water, their persistence brings new winds and their passion lights the flame that rekindles the hearts of those who came before.
Do not allow anyone to dim your light or make you doubt your essence. Take care of your uniqueness, this "rare" that is the most beautiful and precious flower of your family tree.
You are, in fact, the dream that came true of your entire ancestral generation and an inspiration to humanity. ~ Victor Madrid

So Why This Blog?
To keep a running track history of the damages being done to not only our own country but the damage we are doing to other countries as well. History should be used as a guide for our future. So far, to date (4/18/2025) Donald Trump has not caused me to create a page of positive accomplishments he has made for our country. Instead, he has given me more reason why I would never cast a vote for anyone even remotely similar in the future. This blog serves as my statement, when people ask why not Trump, why not a Republican. Yes, DJT has even completely turned me away from the entire party. The ONLY republican I would ever consider voting for at this point?
Adam Kinzinger
Lisa Murkowski

Moving?
We are currently in Virginia (the Virginia Beach area of Virginia). And it held strong against MAGA politics, BUT it is still a military community. And for whatever stupid reason, most military still believes Republicans serve them better, a fact that has been disputed for years. And while I won't get into specifics here on this topic, overall, while the Republicans have invested financially more often, in the military machine, Democrats by and large have served the military community better overall, throughout history. So we never know when the pendulum may sway and our blue state may turn red. So, although staying in Virginia is still a possibility (we will see what the 2028 elections begin to look like).
𝗢𝘂𝗿 Move 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 (𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁)
💙Politics Blue states only, more progressive the better
💙Job opportunity (especially for Keith) but also for me. This is all in question at present, so specific areas we can't really look to deeply into yet. Some of the areas we currently rate high on our list would contain; wildlife and nature areas, spiritual communities and areas big on self improvement and personal freedoms would be ideal.
💙Climate, we love seasonable weather, as is 4 distinct seasons.
-
Snow is ok, even a lot, as long as its not year round.
If, a warm weather climate, we need milder days.
We LOVE autumn and autumn temperatures the most!
💙Access to nature (ocean, mountains, forests) Lakes are eh.
💙Availability to volunteer work with wildlife
💙Respect, diversity and opportunity for meeting others of like mind and belief within the community, for different religious and non religious practices
💙Housing costs & cost of living
💙But above all, quality of life

So, Where May We Relocate To Here In The States?
Besides Virginia, which we have loved and has been good for us, we do have a short list we are considering if the US political environment shifts back to the left, or at least to the center left.
-
Connecticut
-
Vermont
-
Maine
-
Rhode island
-
Maryland
-
New York
-
New Hampshire
-
Massachusetts
-
Washington State
-
Oregon
-
Colorado

-
California
-
Washington DC
-
North Carolina
-
Illinois
-
Wisconsin
-
Michigan
-
Mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe PA, mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe Alaska (but only the bluer parts). PA used to be high on our list until they voted for DJT in a big way.
Those in blue are highest on the list

Moving Abroad?
It's something we are seriously considering once my husband retires in 3ish years, Especially IF we are still under any assemblance of a Drumpf/Vance administration.

So, Where May We Relocate To Outside The US?
The same criteria stand in or out of the US. I guess I would add ease of VISA application, retirement opportunity, and healthcare accessibility to the criteria for outside the US. For instance I would LOVE to live on Svalbard, but they have some very specific rules of healthcare, insurance and length of stay, so we need to be more realistic and consider more accessible areas, even if still in the Norwegian areas.
Besides the US, which we have/had loved and has been good for us, we do have a short list we are considering if the US political environment does not shift away from the far right/authoritarian agenda. And even if it does shift there are places we have both considered previous to the shifting tides of politics.
So where is on our list?
-
Finland
-
Norway
-
Denmark
-
Sweden
-
Switzerland
-
Germany
-
Iceland
-
Ireland
-
Canada (Nova Scotia or Toronto area)
-
Portugal
-
Spain
-
New Zealand
-
Belgium
-
Austria
-
Costa Rica
Those in blue are highest on the list.

More than 100,000 Americans looking to move abroad took part in the survey, which found prospective expats want to head to Europe the most.
All but 2 are included on our list!

Me In Memes

I truly do not care if food stamps cover junk food.
But do you know who does care & who it does affect?
The kid who wouldn't get a birthday cake otherwise.
The one who only knows what it's like to say
"no" in the snack aisle.
The one who just wants to feel like every other child for one day.
Let them have the cake.
Let them have the chips at the birthday party.
Let them feel normal because poverty is already isolating enough.
If you've never had to choose between groceries and gas, sit this one out.
Because food stamps aren't your business
But kindness should be.

10 LESSONS FOR STRONGER MOVEMENTS
IMPERFECT ALLIES AREN'T ENEMIES
CRITIQUE TO BUILD,
NOT TEAR DOWN ORGANIZE,
DON'T JUST ARGUE MOVEMENTS WIN, NOT INDIVIDUALS
PERFECTION IS THE ENEMY OF PROGRESS
EGO KILLS MOVEMENTS
PLAN FOR THE LONG GAME
MEET PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE
POWER DOESN'T CARE ABOUT FEELINGS
DIVISION IS A WEAPON USED BY ELITES, DON'T PLAY ALONG

1 Imperfect Allies Aren’t Enemies
We ourselves are not perfect allies. No one is. Stop treating every disagreement as a betrayal—real opposition comes from the corporate-owned politicians in both parties, not those fighting alongside us.
2 Critique to Build, Not Tear Down
Criticism should strengthen movements, not divide them. We can critique allies while still respecting and appreciating their larger contributions to the movement. If it doesn’t move us forward, it’s just fueling infighting.
3 Organize, Don’t Just Argue
Social media outrage doesn’t threaten power—mass movements do. Energy spent fighting online is energy not spent building real change.
4 Movements Win, Not Individuals
Political victories come from collective power, not ideological purity. We don’t need saints—we need an organized, disciplined movement.
5 Perfection is the Enemy of Progress
Waiting for the perfect leader, perfect plan, or perfect conditions ensures nothing ever happens. Change comes from action, not unattainable ideals.
6 Ego Kills Movements
Prioritizing personal status, ideological superiority, or being “right” over winning collective battles is a fast track to irrelevance.
7 Play the Long Game
The right builds institutions, funds media, and plays for decades. The left must think beyond the next election cycle and invest in long-term power.
8 Meet People Where They Are
If we expect to persuade, we have to speak in language people understand—not lecture them on theory before they even know why it matters. Effective communication reaches beyond activists.
9 Power Doesn’t Care About Feelings
The ruling class doesn’t care if you're morally outraged—it only cares if you're organized enough to challenge its control.
10 Division is a Weapon, Don't Play Along
The ruling class doesn’t need to destroy the left when we do it ourselves. Recognize how media, state forces, and bad-faith actors sow division—and refuse to play along.

Seems a lot of people are being confused with the term "woke" & "political correctness"
And sadly many "woke" folks have gone astray into areas of illusion

I’m no expert on US laws, I just know the basics. But I’ve certainly been refreshing my memory on my and other’s rights over the last few months.
If you are also interested in this - here’s a refresher about the Bill of Rights.
The Bill of Rights, ratified on December 15, 1791, outlines fundamental protections for individuals in the U.S. These rights apply to anyone on U.S. soil, not just citizens, unless specified otherwise (e.g., voting rights aren’t included here). Here’s a simple breakdown of each amendment:
-
Article I (Amendment 1)
You’re free to practice any religion, speak your mind, publish your thoughts, gather peacefully with others, and ask the government to fix issues - without fear of punishment.
- For all on U.S. soil: Everyone can speak freely or worship as they choose, citizen or not.
-
Article II (Amendment 2)
The government can’t take away your right to own and carry weapons, as a well-regulated militia is necessary for a free state’s security.
- For all on U.S. soil: Anyone can own a firearm, though modern laws have added some restrictions like background checks.
-
Article III (Amendment 3)
In peacetime, soldiers can’t stay in your home without your permission. In wartime, this can only happen if the law allows it.
- For all on U.S. soil: No one has to house soldiers against their will, regardless of citizenship.
-
Article IV (Amendment 4)
You’re protected from unreasonable searches or seizures of your body, home, or belongings. The government needs a good reason, backed by a warrant, to search or take your stuff.
- For all on U.S. soil: Everyone is safe from random government searches, citizen or not.
-
Article V (Amendment 5)
You can’t be tried for a serious crime without a grand jury’s approval (except in military cases during war or emergencies). You can’t be tried twice for the same crime, be forced to testify against yourself, or have your life, liberty, or property taken without a fair legal process. The government can’t take your property for public use without paying you fairly.
- For all on U.S. soil: These legal protections apply to everyone facing the justice system.
-
Article VI (Amendment 6)
If accused of a crime, you get a quick, public trial by an impartial jury in the area where the crime happened. You must be told what you’re accused of, face your accusers, call witnesses to help you, and have a lawyer.
- For all on U.S. soil: Anyone accused of a crime gets these trial rights, not just citizens.
-
Article VII (Amendment 7)
In lawsuits over $20, you have the right to a jury trial, and the facts decided by that jury can’t be reexamined by another court, except under common law rules.
- For all on U.S. soil: This applies to everyone in civil disputes, ensuring a fair process.
-
Article VIII (Amendment
The government can’t demand excessive bail, impose huge fines, or use cruel or unusual punishments.
- For all on U.S. soil: Everyone is protected from unfair punishment, citizen or not.
-
Article IX (Amendment 9)
Just because a right isn’t listed in the Constitution doesn’t mean you don’t have it - other rights exist and can’t be denied.
- For all on U.S. soil: Everyone has unlisted rights, like privacy, that are still protected.
Article X (Amendment 10)
Any power not given to the federal government by the Constitution belongs to the states or the people.
- For all on U.S. soil: This affects everyone by limiting federal overreach, ensuring local control where applicable.
These rights are foundational and protect everyone on U.S. soil, ensuring fairness and freedom in various aspects of life.

I do have a dream.
It's a strange world we are living in, where people can be imprisoned for a tattoo and a convicted felon can run the country.
I think we are really living in, what did they call, it?
The Upside Down

You’ve probably seen me—hovering, working, buzzing softly in the background. I never asked for praise. I just did my job. I fed your fields, your flowers, your fruit trees.
But now I’m fading. Not from old age—but from neglect.
My sisters are gone. The flowers we once danced through are poisoned, or paved over.
Without us, your world begins to starve.
Please—don’t wait until it’s too late. I don’t need a miracle. I need flowers. Clean water. No chemicals. A little space in your garden.
You don’t need to be a hero. Just care enough to act.
Because once we’re gone… your world will feel it.
From one small bee, with one big hope:
Don’t let the silence win

Save The Bees | This Story Will Change Everything You Think About Animals and Nature | Bee Lovers

"When Do We Lose Our Compassion?
I was thinking about Dumbo the other day—the scene where they lock up Dumbo’s mom, calling her a “mad” animal just because she wanted to protect her baby. They tore them apart, and little Dumbo just wanted his mother. I remember how much that scene hurt as a child. I felt it. I knew it was wrong.
But then I started wondering… at what point do we stop feeling so deeply?
As kids, we see suffering, and we care. We don’t ask whether it’s “just the way things are” or whether someone deserves it. We don’t think about money, tradition, or industry. We just feel. We cry when animals get hurt. We get angry when something isn’t fair.
And then, slowly, society tells us to stop.
We hear: “That’s just life.” “Don’t be so sensitive.” “Animals are here for us.”
We’re told to accept things we once knew were wrong.
But what if that childlike empathy wasn’t a weakness? What if it was the truth before the world tried to make us forget?
So, I want to ask—when do you think we lose our compassion? And why?
And to those who never let society mute their compassion—to those who stood up for what they believed in even when the world told them not to—I admire you so much. You’ve been fighting for what’s right all along, and the rest of us are just catching up.
Maybe we don’t need to “grow out of” caring. Maybe we need to grow back into it."
Written By: Antoinette Sallit
I am happy to say, only once or twice has my compassion grown cold. And in those times, is when I was feeling weak, less than, and lost in my own soup, sorrow and self pity. And each time I allowed it to teach me a lesson on holding on to my compassion and empathy.
An Example:
The time I told Keith, "I am never sure if I should give money to a random person on the street asking for hand outs because I never know, 1. if they really need the money, and 2. if they are just gonna spend it on booze or drugs.
He looked at me, knowing I knew the answer to that question that made my compassion pause.
The answer was, it was none of my business. My compassion is not, and should not be based on MY judgements of another persons actions. My compassion IS IN MY my karma, my prayer, my life's work and legacy, MY intention behind WHY I gave.
My soul, my heart, what I leave behind will NEVER be found in my judgement of others.

Different robes. Same truth. 🧘♂️✝️
When Jesus and Buddha start comparing notes, you realize—most of this wisdom is echoing the same Source.
Let go of desire. Find the kingdom within. Detach from the external. Anchor in the eternal.
Call it God, call it Awareness, cal it wokeness, call it Love… the names change, the direction doesn’t.
All paths, same mountain. Walk yours with heart.
